Just starting out

Hello everyone. I have just received my Fall Knitscene magazine, and am very excited to start with the CPH as my first sweater, and my first cable project at that. I have decided to use Lion Brand's Wool-Ease Lambswool/Acrylic blend in White/Multi (Color #301), due to the fact that it costed me $2.50 a skein at Michael's and it is machine washable and dryable. Besides that, the color is just gorgeous. The label claims that the guage is 18 sts and 24 rows/4 inches. That's good enough for me. I am in the process of creating my swatch.

Question......What size buttons should I use to make the finished product? Any ideas? I know I am thinking way ahead, but if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

I don't really know what buttons that should be used, but might a suggest browsing those already done by others...

i remember a lady under the name "aquaknits"

http://aquaknits.factotum23.com/

she used buttons that i find are fitting :)

I always find that whatever buttons I think will look great on something before it is done and blocked never look all that great. With sewing I was always able to nail buttons before I started, but it is just different with knitting--at least for me. So now I wait until it is all done and blocked and ready for the buttons and then I drag it around looking for just the right buttons. Buttons really do make a project look unique and different, and they are the final touch, and so often they aren't given the fair shake they should.

Mary and Elizabeth, thanks so much for your input. The above address is an online store that has a gazillion buttons and other fun stuff that can be used to embellish any garment. The store is located in the Fashion district of New York, and I must say that I am very lucky to work a few train stops away. I have visited the store, and was in awe, but never had a true project to buy anything for. (sorry for the corny rhyme..LOL) Elizabeth, I will go with your knowledge, and take my sweater to the store with me, so that I can actually focus on really buying something this time. I want it to be absolutely perfect. Now, I must get back to knitting, so I can have something to show for myself.
