Swatched & Ready

Hello all - hope you're having a great last day of the year!

Here's to more great knitting adventures in 2007.

I have swatched for my CPH today, finally. I'm using Karabella Aurora 8 in a blue that I'm just in love with. I would love to know everyone's take on the ribbing. The pattern calls for doing the ribbing in needles 2 sizes smaller than those for the main body. Looking at the completed sweater in the magazine, I find it hard to believe they did that, because the rib does not pull in much at all. Would love to hear what others are doing.

Glad to be aboard!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year's Eve everyone!
A couple of weeks ago , I had the urge to knit a sweater and was browsing the internet for the perfect pattern, and I saw the CPH!! I loved it, but wasn't sure how to get the pattern. Within the week, I had stumbled across the pattern at Michaels and knew I was supposed to knit it!

I bought some Patons' merino wool yarn in a denim blue color and got started. I am a fairly slow knitter, but as long as I can find time in my days, I can get a bit accomplished. So far, I have the back and 1/2 the front finished!! I hope I get it finished soon, and will post pictures of my progress soon! It is great seeing everyone else's progress on this too!!

Thanks!!

Just starting out

Hello everyone. I have just received my Fall Knitscene magazine, and am very excited to start with the CPH as my first sweater, and my first cable project at that. I have decided to use Lion Brand's Wool-Ease Lambswool/Acrylic blend in White/Multi (Color #301), due to the fact that it costed me $2.50 a skein at Michael's and it is machine washable and dryable. Besides that, the color is just gorgeous. The label claims that the guage is 18 sts and 24 rows/4 inches. That's good enough for me. I am in the process of creating my swatch.

Question......What size buttons should I use to make the finished product? Any ideas? I know I am thinking way ahead, but if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Second sleeve

It worked, big thanks to our host!!!
Just a quick post to say I am so looking forward to actually finishing this hoodie,so far I have reknitted the first sleeve 2 times as I had started the second to find that I couldn't remember which size needles I used, doh, so I end up ripping back both and started again (thats what happens when you have too much on the needles).
I got a good start on no 2 only to discover half way through it I had the cables going the same way......
Anyway I am back to a sleeve and a half and sailing, more piccies next post, cheers............

Yarn has arrived!

Hi everyone! I received my yarn this past week. I am using Peace Fleece in Father's Gray and hope to be swatching very soon! I'm glad I found this blog as I know I'll need lots of help. I've done some cabling, but not as much as this sweater will entail. I look to it as a challenge and cannot wait for the finished product!

Can't Wait to Get Started

Let me introduce myself--I'm Elizabeth. I love knitting and have knit since I was a kid. My grandmothers taught me at a very early age. One picked and one threw, and I ended up throwing--much to the dismay of my picking grandma. I had hoped to have the CPH on the needles by now but the storm here in Seattle left our house powerless for four days and there wasn't a lot of knitting to be done as I tried to keep the "technology-less" (their words, not mine) kids entertained. So I struck on a golden idea--I have all these skeins of yarn to wind before I can start and so . . .

I put the oldest to work winding the yarn. So now I have all the yarn wound and when I get the family that is about to arrive for Christmas headed back to their respective homes, I'm going to start knitting! I can't wait. Please keep posting, because I love seeing everyone else's colors and progress.

I had to put in a shot of the yarn. It is such gorgeous stuff!

New KALer

Hi guys! I just joined, and I haven't started knitting the CPH yet. The pattern and yarn are both on their way, and I've got a couple projects to finish first. But I wanted to join and benefit from all your work, and let you know about some yarn!

I just ordered the tahki donegal tweed the pattern calls for from webs (yarn.com), they have closeout colors that are half price, each skein is only 5.29, and as you may know, the yardage per skein is not too shabby. I think I'll make the whole sweater for about $50 including shipping. Of course, they only have one color in closeout, it's a golden yellow, or maybe a yellow brown. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it will work for me, and I wanted to let everyone know about it.

I look forward to sharing and working with you all!

Best,
Shiva

starting!!

i am starting on it. as seen in my blog marywary.blogspot.com (link on side under marywary..)

hope to to finish before new years? oh hope to finish whenever :)

good luck to all!

hi everyone...i need some advice!

hi there! i'm excited to finally be part of the kal. i've been working on the cph for awhile now and just now got around to joining. i'm using sheep shop yarn in the F02 colorway, which is an amazing teal blue. i love it even though it's taking me a lot longer than i'd like! i'll post some pictures next monday when i hopefully get a new camera for christmas.

i've finished the back and am now working on the two sides of the front simultaniously. after knitting about 7 inches and completing 3 cables i realized i got the right and left sides messed up so my cables in the front and the back don't match.

UPDATED for clarification: when i say the front and back don't match i mean the cables are twisted in different directions...i held the needle in front on one side and in the back on the other, so when i join them at the shoulder the twist will be different in the front vs. the back. why is that so hard for me to explain???

so here's where i need the advice. should i rip out and the 4-5 inches so my cables match the back or should i just keep going? i'm leaning toward keeping it as is cause i want to be done and you'd have to be paying really close attention to notice the variation between the cables in the back and front. i even have to look closely to see the difference. what do you guys think?

so while i contemplate this issue i've decided it is the perfect excuse i've been looking for to go to my lys and buy some more sheep shop yarn to start emerald. i was of course going to buy it anyway, but now i have no choice since i need something to work on while i'm deciding about what to do on my cph!

happy knitting! carrie

Frogged, but back on track

Hi all, Thanks for your comments. I decided to rip it all out and start over, since I was just on the back and I would prefer a slouchy, jacket-fit sweater to a just-fitting sweater for this knit anyway. So I took a photo yesterday afternoon and here it is. Tienne, I saw your gorgeous CPHs and had to ask if you made modifications other than the toggles? Did you lengthen them at all? I haven't checked the schematics but I am tall and want to make sure it will be long enough. Thanks, Jen

photo to come

Hi there, I'm finally knitting the Central Park Hoodie and have about 7" done and I'm not sure the size I chose will be right for me. Technically, it should be fine (44" and I have a 39" chest), but the back seems to be coming out skinnier, although my gauge is on, which is weird. I would prefer for this to be more of a jacket fit, although I'm concerned about going all the way up to the next size, which is 48". I don't want it to be slouchy, but I'll definitely be wearing it over other shirts and turtlenecks. I'm using Cestari 2ply and it's phenomenal yarn. I really like it. I will try to post a photo later today.

Anyway, anyone who has knit this pattern, did it come out small for you? The back, as well as I can measure (knitting on circular needles), is only about 20" wide and it should be 22". The ribbing is pulling in a lot and is only about 16" wide, which also concerns me because I would prefer more relaxed ribbing, not ribbing that is hugging my hips. I suppose I should rip out and reknit with a larger needle for the ribbing and knit the 48" size but I just wanted to see if anyone who had made it had a similar situation.

Thanks! Jen
