CPH FO happy dance!

I finished my hoodie last night. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Especially given the egregious error I made a while back. My left armhole was 10 rows deeper than my right armhole, but I didn't discover that until after I had joined the shoulders and knit the entire hood. Yikes. I had to cut the knitting, rip down 10 rows, and graft it all back together. And it worked.

Here's the end product!

I started this on September 16, and finished on October 28. That's pretty quick for a sweater for me. I used Louet Riverstone Worsted, six skeins.

Mods: short row shoulders and three needle bindoff to join them, and I continued the cable up the hood. I also ran a line of slip stitch crochet along the back neck to keep the fabric from stretching out (hat tip to the Yarn Harlot for that one!).

More gory details on my blog: http://pdxknitterati.com/2008/10/29/central-park-hoodie/

I love this sweater!

A Friend's CPH

Hello, all!

Cristi, aka Turtlegirl76, is a member of the Ravelry version of the CPH KAL but not this version. She just finished an amazing CPH and has kindly given me permission to share it with you. So head on over to Cristi's blog and take a look at her FO. Can you believe she did it in SIXTEEN DAYS?

Kind of motivates one to knit, doesn't it? :-)

Zipper advice

I'm just finishing sleeve #2 and am thinking forward to whether I want buttons or a zipper. I'm thinking that buttons may create "gaps" when I button it up. How have folks finished the front bands when they put in a zipper...are they kniting the same way they would for buttons without the button band? I saw some reference to I-cord bind off, was this after the button band had been knitted. After all this work, I want to be sure I finish it so it looks as well as possible.

Revised plans

I wrote recently about starting the CPH with Cascade Superwash for my daughter. Well, I've decided to knit one for myself first. I'm using Plymouth Encore because I found a beautiful green tweed at my local yarn store's 40% off sale. I'm on my second day of knitting and have two cable repeats done on the back. The photo I have here was from the first day of knitting. I'm excited to finally be started. I am knitting a size 40 and plan to make it one cable repeat longer than the original pattern.

Stupid Gauge Question

OK, this is probably a very stupid question coming from the Administrator of this KAL, but... I seem to have misplaced my copy of Knitscene with the pattern in it. I already re-wrote and charted it in the round so I have the "pattern" but what I don't have is the gauge. I just knit a swatch and washed, blocked and measured it—about time, eh?—and have my gauge established, but I don't know what the target gauge is.

Can anyone tell me what the pattern's gauge recommendation is and also the biggest size and how many to cast on?

Thanks...

Signed,
Horribly Embarrassed

Some progress, finally!!!

I am finally making some progress on my Central Park Hoodie. I am up to the point where I am working on the hood. Here are some pictures of the shoulder seams. I crocheted it on the wrong side using the Single Crochet stitch.

Wow!!! What a neat seam for my first try. This is why it is very important to bind off loosely.
Now it is starting to actually look like a sweater.
Progress on the hood, about 4 inches.
I added the cable to the center of the hood. It looks better this way. Only 7 more inches to go!! Woohoo! You think maybe I can finish this before the week is done?
Although there were many distractions while knitting this sweater, I am all excited all over again, and I am still in love with the color.

I can't stop.....I'm twisted... in the cabling sense, anyway;)

CPH #2 is coming along even quicker. I cast on Last Monday. (I think) Fronts and back are done- cast on sleeves last night. For me- matching mirrored pieces (fronts, sleeves) 2 at a time is the way to go!
Using Cascade Sierra-
80 % pima cotton 20 wool
Color- Raspberry
US #8's (5 for ribbing)
Planned mods:
Am knitting pieces 2 at a time. (I'm keeping my 2 "cakes" of Sierra in a zip-lock- pulling from the center- then each time I switch - I turn the bag to keep them from twisting together.)
I will be continuing the cable up the back of the hood. (have to find that post;)
I will be knitting the button band in one piece to eliminate the little seam at the top center of the hood.

Oops, I did it again!

Couldn't resist- Cast on for CPH #2--- In Raspberry colored Cascade Sierra. (80% cotton 20% wool)
Using US #8 Holz and Stein circs....for the body and US5 for ribbing (cause the cotton will stretch out a bit) I'm about to cast off for the shoulder shaping on the back....knitting htis one a bit more loosely for spring summer wear....;)

Finished;)

Ella Rae Classic
Under 7 skeins
Knit for 40" size
US 5 for ribbing and US 6 for body
(knit picks options)
After 2 days of button shopping---- here it is;)
(a button's a button until you knit a sweater- is all I'm sayin...)
Fits great. (a bit big)
Will make it again.

I'm Back and improved!

The last time I was here I had posted about the problems I was haveing with my hoodie and not having enough yarn to knit it. The sales rep for that sold Tahki yarn to my local yarn store even searched high and low for more of my colorway but no luck. So I finally decided that I would use that yarn for a short sleeve sweater in the future and buy totally new yarn to knit the CPH. I decided to use the same type of yarn (Tahki New Tweed) The color is gorgeous brown with pink, cream, maroon, black flecks in it. So here is the start of a swatch I did today because of course I forgot what size needle I was using (I have since started the sweater):

I am so excited to get back to knitting this sweater. Yay me!!!

Hoodie---- is it me- or is the HOOD endless???

Had to rip back my fronts. Grrrrrr. I just could NOT get them to line up. (I knit them individually) so- I ripped them back - till they were even - and before the shaping--- then put them both on my circs and finished them together.
Highly recommend knitting fronts and sleeves 2 at a time. Harder to keep track the pattern- but it sure makes for easier matching of measurements.

I seamed my shoulders and picked up my stitches for the hood. The hood seems endless. Is it just me? I have a feeling the ribbing yet to come will be even more so! However- at least it's good tv/movie knitting!

Bad news - My CPH on hiatus!

Bad news y’all. My Central Park Hoodie is sitting in the corner on time out. There are a number of issues, the 1st being:

- that I think I need to to frog it and knit is a size larger. I heard that it tends to run small. I want it to fit. So it has to be frogged.

- and then,Yarn issues. I thought I had the yarn issue all solved but no.

I went to pick up my order today from Knit away during my lunch break, but the yarn was the wrong color. The wrong color, can you believe that. Apparently Tahki discontinued the yarn I am using and have a new line with the same name. The only difference is they took the cotton out of the tweed yarn and have a new label, and stupid idiots that they are, when they named the new colors they used the same numbers they used with the old line but different colors. How stupid is that! On top of that the yarn store owner called up the customer service of Tahki yarns to see what could be done to fix this problem for me. I guess she had problems with them in the past and knew how they were gonna act because she put them on speaker phone so I could hear how the conversation went and y’all they were so rude, it was not right. Apparently there have been a lot of complaints about Tahki yarns and their customer service. I even spoke to the sale rep for Knit a way and she was saying the same thing. So the sales rep is gonna try to track down some of the old yarn or find a match with the new yarn. It is either that or buy more yarn in a new color to knit the Central Park Hoodie.

I am leaning towards just buying more yarn in a new color. I don't know we will see.

So I say all that to say my CP Hoodie is on hiatus and I am going to knit something else. Boo hoo!

I’m off to knit...

Can't believe this is so easy!!!

This is my first sweater project, and my first Cable project as well. I can't believe that I am actually making a sweater, and not getting bored. This pattern is very easy to follow. I am using Cascade 220 yarn. I think that it is much softer than the Donegal Tweed, and more affordable as well. And I absoluely love this color. This is a picture of the back piece. So, now it is on to the armhole shaping. Will post more pics later.
I must apologize for waiting so long to post. I have been sidetracked, because I had to make 3 hats for relatives, and one for Charity after I started this one. New York is brutally cold right now, so I felt an obligation to get the hats done.... so now I can fully focus on the sweater in the weeks to come. Ahem, that means finally focus on ME!!!!!! We all have to find time to treat ourselves, even if we are kindhearted and do nice things for other people. It's sad that I knit so much and only have pictures. This sweater will be my "live" masterpiece. LOL!!

on to the button bands!

Hi All!

i've been a lurker for too long with a CHP on the needles! I've just finished the hood and am in the process of picking up the button band stitches... I found that I was 8 over the 150 I should have picked up but figured that I would just work em' in. I'm hoping that it's common to get some few extra stitches, especially when I am almost positive my row gauge was a skew off...

I'm using the Classic Elite Silke Tweed and so far haven't really made any modifications. I figured I need the practice with seaming. Speaking of, what have people done for the hood? Just the simple grafting from the outside or have people done anything inside out?

I'm thrilled with the way this has been coming out and I'm so eager to finish and sport this puppy out!

Hi I am New to the Knit along...but lurking for a little bit.

Hi all,

I joined the knitalong about a month ago? But I am only now posting. I just finished the back and I am currently knitting the left front. This sweater is just knitting up so easy. I love seeing every ones progress and finished sweaters. I hope to see more of them in the future. Here is my progress.

My CPH Hoodie Sleeves

I finished the frontof my Central Park Hoodie and I only hope it's wide enough. I put in deeper armholes so I could use the larger sleeves and now I'm working on those. It feels like I'm almost done, but there is a lot of yarn left and I probably will use 2/3 of the remaining six balls. There's most of a ball attached to the hood, about one ball remaining between the two sleeves and 4 in the bag. I will probably use at least one, if not two to finish up the hood and button bands. It would be great to have some yarn leftover. If I do, I'm not sure whether I'll return it or knit matching fingerless gloves. Now, what did I do with my copy of Knit Scene?
