Hood Kitchnering

I am almost done with knitting the hood. I want to kitchener the hood rather than seaming it. I've made lots of socks and know how to kitchener knit stitches. But I don't know how to handle the purls stitches on either side of the cable.

Are there any instructions on how to do this out "there"?

When I looked at the same thing, I googled kitchener ribbing and got a number of results, but I ended up just doing the standard stockinette grafting and I think it looks fine. I'm more troubled by the funky seam I have at the top of the hood where the ribbing meets (my needle wasn't nearly long enough to pick up stitches on both sides of the cardigan.

Good luck. Maybe someone else can provide a better answer for you.

I just did the regular stockinette grafting across the entire hood as well. You really can't tell at all....

In my Vogue knitting book there are instructions for doing grafting with a knit/purl ribbing, but I don't think they would actually be helpful in this case because it requires separating the knits and purls to different needles.

Thanks for the replies. I'm so used to going online to find knitting info I didn't think to look in my books.

Let us know what you do, Freda -- I think I just did plain grafting as well - I think the "knit-ness" of those few stitches just recedes and is not very noticeable.

Reader's Digest "knitter's Handbook" by Montose Stanley shows how to graft ribbing. I'll be able to figure it out from this.

Yep - I just carried on the same when I hit this point [I was so impatient to get finished!] and it looked fine.
